  • The elevated Medellin Metro is a rush of color as it heads into the Parque Berrio Station in front of Plaza Botero.  The domed illuminated Palace of Culture sits in the Plaza Botero, named after Medellin's native son and Colombia's most famous artist, Fernando Botero.

  • The elevated Medellin Metro is a blur as it rushes into the Parque Berrio Station in front of Plaza Botero.  The domed illuminated Palace of Culture and the art deco Museum of Antioquia frame the plaza.  The plaza is named after Medellin's native sone, and Colombia's most famous artist, Fernando Botero, who donated 23 sculptures to sit in the plaza.  A dramatic twlight sky outlines the Andes Mountains that surround the city in the Aburra Valley.

  • The barrio of Comuna 13 clings to the side of a steep hillside in Medellin were residents had to climb up and down many steps to get into town and back home.  Now Medellin is the first city in the world to build a series of outdoor escalators as public transport, creating mobility solutions for neighborhoods with difficult access.  The escalators are divided into six sections and have shortened the trip from a 35 minute hike by foot to six minutes.  In the photo two little girls make the trip back to their homes on their new escalator.
